Partial Knee (Unicondyler Knee Replacement)

Our knee joint has three compartments- medial (inner compartment), lateral (Outer) compartment and patello-femoral (Front) compartment. In around 70% cases arthritis starts in inner compartment, if other two compartments are good, this can be treated by Replacement of medial compartment cartilage. This is known as partial knee replacement or unicompartmental/unicondyler knee replacement.

Indications

  • Medial compartment OA with correctable deformity and intact ligaments.

Prosthesis

  • Oxford partial knee

Advantages

  • Minimally invasive, no muscle cutting
  • Less blood loss
  • Faster rehabilitation
  • Better range of motion
  • Less physiotherapy requirement
